I'm About to Lose My Mind Up in Here, Up in Here
Written by Candie A. Price

Well, today it's back to the books, busy schedules and finding time to balance life.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I love being active and busy. However,  several things have changed in my life.  First, I just sent my oldest child to college for the first time.  It was bittersweet, of course.  Thoughts race through your mind simultaneously as you go through this process.  Did you prepare her adequately for her life change? Are you supposed to call or text every day or give her space? As usual, I can rely on my favorite scripture verse in the whole wide world - Isaiah 42:10 - "Fear thou not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed for I am thy God. I will strengthen thee, yea, I will help thee, yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."

Second, I have transferred schools and am now completing my Masters in Christian Education online.  This, too, is a bittersweet moment for me.  I love the classroom - I love interacting face to face with people. However, I am also excited to study what I am studying, as my old school didn't offer the same courses and I can be more flexible for family situations and/or emergencies.

Getting Older: What's Up With That?
Written by Candie A. Price
Wednesday, 28 July 2010 13:18
I almost want to back track on my decision to blog! lol Even though I haven't committed to blogging every day, just the thought of letting others into this crazy mind of mine, is quite scary! I guess there is a therapeutic component to sharing what is on your mind, right? Either that or the folks with the white coats and padded rooms will show up at my door any minute now!

One of the things that has been on my mind lately is this whole idea of getting older! Yes, I do understand that getting older is a blessing - especially in a society that is burying folks at an all time high! But what is this getting old thing really about? Am I really ready for it? I mean, my body is beginning to fight against me and I don't like it one bit! I can barely stay up past 11:00 p.m. What's up with that? I am beginning to feel things crack and ache and it seems like it takes more effort to do things than before! Then you hear folks say, Oh, you're only as young as you feel! Well, I'm in big trouble then! I'm inclined to change that saying to, "You're only as young as you LOOK!" I've been told all the time that I don't look my age....but surely I do FEEL it! There are things that are jiggling differently, pounds have all of a sudden gotten stubborn and refuse to leave and I feel like they're holding up signs that say OH, NO WE WON'T GO as they laugh uncontrollably at my efforts to get rid of them, I've even gotten clumsier and now bruise easily! What???????

Hello and Goodbye
Written by Candie A. Price
Friday, 23 July 2010 13:40
Last night our Praise Team said goodbye to one of our members who is moving to another state.  We fellowshipped about our life experiences, our funny moments, raising children, etc. and it was a relaxing moment.  I realize that life is filled with hellos and goodbyes.  We meet new, and hopefully interesting, people all the time and then there are those who come into our lives and they move on.  I guess the question we must ask ourselves is how we are impacting the lives of others and what can we learn from those we encounter as well.  I remember as a young adult Christian it was important to me that before I went to a new job that I made it a point to impact someone's life for Christ. I used to say, "Lord, if you just give me at least one soul!" He honored that request, there was always at least one person with whom I was able to share the Gospel with.  I must admit that I have fallen short of continuing in that mindset.

The Choice is Yours
Written by Candie A. Price

I have chosen the way of faithfulness, I set your rules before me - Psa 119:30 ESV

I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. Psa 119:30 NIV

I couldn't decide which version of this scripture ministered to me the most! The ESV states, "I have chosen the way of faithfulness," while the NIV states, "I have chosen the way of truth." Both clearly convey to me the deliberate will we must activate in order to follow the precepts (Hb. piqqudim, i.e., what God has appointed to be done) of God.  However, I love the NIV interpretation that states, "I have SET my HEART on your laws." We know that whatever we set our heart and our mind to has our loyalty!

Fear Is Not An Option
Written by Candie A. Price

26He let forth the east wind to blow in the heavens, and by His power He guided the south wind.27He rained flesh also upon them like the dust, and winged birds [quails] like the sand of the seas. 28And He let [the birds] fall in the midst of their camp, round about their tents.29So they ate and were well filled; He gave them what they craved and lusted after. 30But scarce had they stilled their craving, and while their meat was yet in their mouths, 31The wrath of God came upon them and slew the strongest and sturdiest of them and smote down Israel's chosen youth.32In spite of all this, they sinned still more, for they believed not in (relied not on and adhered not to Him for) His wondrous works.33Therefore their days He consumed like a breath [in emptiness, falsity, and futility] and their years in terror and sudden haste. Psalm 78:26-33

If anyone has a testimony to tell about deliverance and God's providence, it is the Children of Israel! The Lord brought them through dangers seen and unseen and it really didn't have anything to do with them - rather it had everything to do with his love for them and his being true to his promises!

After the Lord delivered Israel from the hands of Pharaoh, he continued to guide them and provide for them even while they were in a wilderness - both literally, and psychologically.  He promised them protection, he promised them a covering, he promised them guidance, and he promised them an inheritance - he promised them a land.  However, they were still psychologically and spiritually inept to handle what he was offering them.

Go To Church for What?
Written by Candie A. Price

As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
(Psalm 42:1-2 ESV)

If you read the Psalm above in its entirety along with Psalm 43 you understand that the psalmist is singing a lament for corporate worship that expresses his desire to worship in the sanctuary despite the pressure and ridicule he may be experiencing from others for doing so.

This psalm reminds me of the urgency and passion that is necessary when the faithful seek to worship God corporately.  Our soul must be thirsty for God. Why? Because he is the LIVING God - we do not serve a God that is not alive - that does not seek to meet us in the sanctuary and fill us with presence!

Words of Wisdom and The Godfather
Written by Candie A. Price
Monday, 12 July 2010 17:29
So this morning I had every intention of writing a devotional based on my own personal devotion time from this morning.  Psalm 77 and Matthew 27 both spoke to me as I reflected on the fact that sometimes we feel God is far from us and has forsaken us.  Of course we know that not to be the case, but it doesn't stop us from feeling that way at times.  When you get a moment read those passages and you will be comforted that even though the psalmist was experiencing what he felt was the "anger" of God because of the collective disobedience of the children of Israel, he had to still remember what God had brought them from, what God was capable of doing and the wonderful mercies that God had bestowed on them in spite of them! We all feel that God has turned his back on us when we are going through rough patches, even Jesus proclaimed from Calvary, Why has thou forsaken me? He knew that God had not really forsaken him but had to allow him to suffer the anguish of all of our sins so that we didn't have to pay for them ourselves.  There was, indeed, purpose in the pain!  Take a moment to meditate on those scriptures, I hope that it blesses you as much as it blessed me.

Is it ALL About the Benjamins?
Written by Candie A. Price
Friday, 09 July 2010 13:33
1We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near.We recount your wondrous deeds. 6For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up,7but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another.
Psalm 75:1-2, 6-7 ESV

10 He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity. 11When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes? 12 Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much, but the full stomach of the rich will not let him sleep.
Ecclesiastes 5:10-12 ESV

There are so many people concerned about wealth. We've seen dozens of instances where the desire to be wealthy, to have it all has literally caused some individuals to go mad! And the real crux of the issue is that they got caught doing whatever it took to get what they wanted, especially at the expense of someone else. From the Ponzi schemes to the failed corporations to identity theft and more, there are those that are consumed with money and how to get it. Recently I was the victim of an email hacker who had taken over my account and sent messages to a large majority of my friends pretending to be me stranded in London with my family and in need of money. The perpetrators then proceeded to hack into my Facebook account and ask folks that were online for money. I am grateful that the issue was resolved fairly quickly before they had an opportunity to do any real damage. But it's certainly an example of the greed that exists in the hearts of many.

It Is Under Control
Written by Candie A. Price
Thursday, 08 July 2010 21:15
In my devotion this morning I was met with Asaph who had viewed the destruction of the Jerusalem temple and penned these words, "Yet God my King is from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth." - Psalm 74:12

There is so much destruction and calamity in the world right now.  The BP spill and so many other devastating events are happening to people every day.  I look even at some things happening in my own life right now and sometimes you shake your head in wonder.  However, God IS working salvation in the midst of the earth.  Asaph realized that God was still on the throne and I, too, remind myself of this fact.  Don't be dismayed by what you see - realize that God is at work despite everything that goes on around us.

Endurance
Written by Candie A. Price
Wednesday, 07 July 2010 03:16
Well today I resumed my workout at the gym. I had a hard time last week when my workout partner had other plans during the week.  Sometimes it is really hard to stay focused on a task without the support of someone else.  I should have been strong enough to go to the gym regardless of what my friend was doing - but I must admit I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hate to work out! However, I'm going to encourage myself with one word = Endurance! I work out the best when I "get in the zone" in my mind.  That means that when I am focused on what I am doing and not easily distracted, my mind is settled on what I have to do and then the rest of my body follows suit.  This is true for all of us in our spiritual walk - Belief affects behavior - what you believe you can do, you Read more
