I was driving in my car yesterday and reflected on the Inauguration of our 44th president. Millions of people traveled near and far to witness the event, or just the excitement of the event, and millions more watched from different locations worldwide. What a historic moment in time, one I’m sure most of us will never forget. As I thought about this momentous occasion, my mind searched for some sort of spiritual correlation. In thinking of all of the oaths, the fanfare, the excitement, I believe that God’s children can also engage in an inaugural mindset as we continue in this new year.
One of the things that was notable was the fact that folks came from great distance despite the artic cold air in Washington, DC to witness the event. This shows the fortitude and the perseverance that is shown when we desire something. What lengths will we go to in order to continue the work that God has begun in us? Will we easily be distracted by barriers that surround us? What measures will we take to get closer to the Lord? Will we allow weather, people, and other hindrances to sway us or will we gird ourselves up and persevere with the same vigor as those that went to Washington and stood in the freezing cold for hours even if they couldn’t see the President-Elect get sworn in?

Folks stood in lines for hours on Inauguration Day, whether it was for transportation, parade events, etc. they stood, without incident, hoping to get a glimpse of the First Family. Will we be able to wait patiently for the Lord to work out our circumstances? Will we trust and rely on Him to back up His Word or will we leave our faith on the sidewalk as we try to handle our own problems, which of course we are destined to mess up?

We watched President Obama stand tall as he vowed "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." Through these words, he carries the weight of the country on his shoulders, and must always operate with her best interest at heart. What is our vow to our Savior? Do we affirm to be faithful, to execute the mandate of the Christian walk according to God’s Word (Matt. 28:19,20), will we, through the power of the Holy Spirit, preserve our witness and praise our God with our lives as He solidifies our purpose?

As you vow to be all that God has called you to be, the heavenly host of angels is applauding, excited about your purpose, excited about your commitment and all of the things that God is going to do through you! The Heavenly Ball is being prepared, melodious songs are being played in the background as you prepare to be crowned by your King and as He salutes you for your dance together! You’ve never looked so good, you’ve never appeared so strong! Are you an overcomer? YES YOU ARE! Can God handle whatever you will go through? YES HE WILL! Can you stand strong in the midst of adversity and shine with God's power and grace? YES YOU CAN!Your time is now! Go forth, my sister, my brother and enjoy your Inauguration Day!
